Where Big Bear evacuation orders come from
Big Bear Ready republishes official information. It does not issue evacuation orders and it cannot dispatch anyone. Orders and warnings for the valley come from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, working with the incident command running the fire.
Call 911 for any emergency. Put the county's own alerts on your phone before you need them, so an order reaches you directly rather than only when you happen to check a website.
Roads out of the valley during a fire
Three state highways leave Big Bear Valley, and a fire closure rarely takes all three at once. Highway 38 climbs over Onyx Summit at 8,464 ft, Highway 18 runs the Rim of the World and east to Lucerne, and Highway 330 drops to Highland. Check which are open before you choose a direction.

The list above comes from the National Interagency Fire Center's record of incidents created or updated in the last 24 hours. Every entry is measured against Big Bear Lake, so the distance and direction shown are the distance and direction from the lake, not from the nearest town in the report.
A fire is marked as major when it is both large and still spreading. That is a deliberate threshold rather than a raw acreage number, because a big fire that is nearly contained is a different thing from a small one that is not.
