Where the map comes from

Every layer is a free, official, public feed, read by this site every few minutes: weather warnings and radar from the National Weather Service (radar via the Iowa Environmental Mesonet); fire perimeters and locations from the National Interagency Fire Center; smoke from NOAA's satellite smoke detection; earthquakes from the US Geological Survey; chain control from Caltrans and snow cover from NOAA's National Snow Analysis; cameras from Caltrans District 8. The map tiles are OpenStreetMap.

Fire locations are shown to the nearest kilometre on purpose. Caltrans has no camera on the mountain itself; the ALERTCalifornia and resort cameras open on their own sites. A feed that cannot be reached says so under its heading rather than drawing nothing and looking like an all-clear. An official evacuation order always overrides this page.
