Privacy on Big Bear Ready

This page says exactly what this site collects, why, who else ever sees it, and how to have it deleted. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask — the address is at the bottom.

The short version

This site sets no cookies of its own. It runs no analytics. It carries no advertising trackers, no Facebook pixel and no Google Analytics. You can read every page here without telling us anything at all.

One honest exception: a few pages embed things from other companies — the Facebook page feeds on the agency posts page, the Instagram photo wall on the send-us-a-photo page, the YouTube and live webcam players, the Windy radar, the Waze live traffic map on the road updates page, and the map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When your browser loads one of those, that company sees your IP address and browser details, and Facebook, Instagram and YouTube may set their own cookies, especially if you are logged in to them. The full list is in the tracking section below.

The only personal information on this site is what somebody deliberately typed into a form — signing up for alerts, posting a lost pet, listing a job, sending in a photo, or buying a business listing.

What is collected, and only when you choose to give it

Emergency alert sign-ups

Your email address, and the neighbourhoods you picked if you chose any. That is the whole record. It is used to email you about wildfires, road closures, power outages and major storms, and for nothing else. There is an unsubscribe link on every email.

Community posts — lost pets, garage sales, jobs

A contact name, email address and phone number where you provide one, plus whatever you wrote in the post. Anything you type into a post is meant to be published, so treat those fields as public. The contact details are shown only as you chose to show them.

Photos you send in

A name for the photo credit, and a contact name so we can reach you about your own photo. If you would rather not be named, the credit can be left off.

Business listings and advertising

Business name, category, phone, address and website — the details you are paying to have published — and an email address to manage the listing. Business contact details are published by design; that is the product.

Payments

Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. This site never sees or stores your card number. What comes back is whether a subscription is active and which listing it belongs to.

Who else ever sees it

Five companies, each doing one job, and none of them are given anything to sell:

• Brevo delivers the emails. It sees the address an email is going to.
• Stripe takes the payments. It handles card details so this site does not have to.
• Northflank runs the server, where everything you submit is stored.
• Supabase holds the backups, so nothing is lost if a disk fails. What it holds is set out below.
• Ollama runs the automatic check that screens submitted photos before a person reviews them. It sees the photo and any caption, place or description sent with it, not your email address.

The companies whose feeds are embedded on some pages (listed in the tracking section below) see your IP address and browser details when the embed loads. They never receive anything you typed into a form here.

Nothing is sold, rented, or handed to advertisers. Nothing is shared for marketing by anyone. Information is only ever given out beyond that if the law requires it.

What the backups hold. There are two, both at Supabase:

• The alert sign-up list is copied twice a day into a backup that is overwritten each time, so the backup always matches the live list, including addresses marked unsubscribed. An address deleted on request is gone from the backup at the next copy.
• Business listings, job posts, community posts, photo submissions and unfinished paid sign-ups, including any contact details in them, go into a backup that keeps every old copy. A post deleted from the live site stays in those older copies. If you ask for something to be deleted, say so and it will be removed from the backup too.

Advertiser enquiries are not backed up at all.

Tracking, and Do Not Track

This site itself does not track you. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and has no advertising code of its own. The labelled partner links at the foot of the road and power-outage pages are counted as a plain total per partner per month; nothing about you is stored with that count. What it cannot promise for is the handful of outside feeds embedded on some pages. Each one is loaded straight from that company, which means the company sees your IP address and browser details, and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy:

• Facebook page timelines from Big Bear Fire, the Sheriff, Caltrans and the CSD, on the agency posts page — Meta’s privacy policy. Meta is the one most likely to recognise you, if you are logged in to Facebook.
• Instagram photo wall on the send-us-a-photo page, delivered by SociableKit — SociableKit’s policy and Instagram’s.
• YouTube player on the homepage, loaded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode so it does not set cookies until you press play — Google’s policy.
• Live webcams on the homepage, streamed by CamStreamer — CamStreamer’s policy.
• Windy radar map on the homepage — Windy’s policy.
• Waze live traffic map on the road updates page — Waze’s privacy policy (Waze is part of Google).
• OpenStreetMap map tiles on the map and community pages, and the map library from the unpkg.com file server — OSM Foundation’s policy.

If you would rather none of that happen, a content blocker that stops third-party frames and scripts will remove those embeds and the rest of the site still works. Nothing else on these pages calls out to a third party.

Because this site itself does nothing that a Do Not Track signal could switch off, the signal changes nothing about how the site behaves. How the embedded companies treat that signal is up to their policies, linked above.

Ordinary server records are kept for a short time to keep the site running and to spot abuse, in the same way any website does. Some pages link out to other sites — Caltrans, the Forest Service, Recreation.gov, the resorts — and once you follow a link you are on their site under their rules, not these.

Seeing, changing or deleting what is held

You can ask for a copy of anything held about you, ask for it corrected, or ask for it deleted. Email bigbearreadyhelp@inkboxmail.com and say which it is. There is no form to fill in and no account to create.

• Alert emails: the unsubscribe link on any alert stops the emails immediately. Your address is then kept, marked unsubscribed, only so it is never mailed again. To have it deleted altogether, just ask.
• A community post: the link emailed to you when you posted lets you edit or remove it yourself.
• A business listing: ask, or manage it through the account the listing was bought under.

Deletion is honoured on the live site straight away. Be aware of one honest limitation: listings and posts also sit in older backup copies (see “What the backups hold” above). Ask by email and they are removed from those too; removing a post yourself only takes it off the live site.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent something in, write to the address above and it will be deleted.

Changes to this page

This page is dated at the top. If what the site does with your information changes, that date changes and the change is described here rather than quietly swapped in. 8 September 2026: the earlier version said there was no third-party code on the site at all. That was wrong — the embedded feeds listed above were already there — so this page now names them. Nothing about what the site itself collects changed. 4 October 2026: this page said the alert list was kept out of backups and named three outside companies. That was out of date — the alert list is backed up at Supabase, posts and listings are kept in older backup copies, and submitted photos are screened by Ollama — and it said the unsubscribe link removes you, when it stops the emails and keeps the address as a do-not-mail record. This page now says so. Nothing about what the site collects changed. Later the same day the Facebook page feeds moved from the homepage to the agency posts page and the Instagram photo wall moved to the send-us-a-photo page, so this page now says where they are. 10 October 2026: the road updates page now embeds Waze’s own live traffic map, so Waze is added to the list of embedded companies above. Nothing about what the site itself collects changed. If a change ever affects people already signed up for alerts, they will be emailed about it.
