Privacy on Big Bear Ready

This page says exactly what this site collects, why, who else ever sees it, and how to have it deleted. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask — the address is at the bottom.

The short version

This site sets no cookies of its own. It runs no analytics. It carries no advertising trackers, no Facebook pixel and no Google Analytics. You can read every page here without telling us anything at all.

One honest exception: a few pages embed things from other companies — the Facebook page feeds and the Instagram photo wall on the homepage, the YouTube and live webcam players, the Windy radar, and the map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When your browser loads one of those, that company sees your IP address and browser details, and Facebook, Instagram and YouTube may set their own cookies, especially if you are logged in to them. The full list is in the tracking section below.

The only personal information on this site is what somebody deliberately typed into a form — signing up for alerts, posting a lost pet, listing a job, sending in a photo, or buying a business listing.

What is collected, and only when you choose to give it

Emergency alert sign-ups

Your email address, and the neighbourhoods you picked if you chose any. That is the whole record. It is used to email you about wildfires, road closures, power outages and major storms, and for nothing else. There is an unsubscribe link on every email.

Community posts — lost pets, garage sales, jobs

A contact name, email address and phone number where you provide one, plus whatever you wrote in the post. Anything you type into a post is meant to be published, so treat those fields as public. The contact details are shown only as you chose to show them.

Photos you send in

A name for the photo credit, and a contact name so we can reach you about your own photo. If you would rather not be named, the credit can be left off.

Business listings and advertising

Business name, category, phone, address and website — the details you are paying to have published — and an email address to manage the listing. Business contact details are published by design; that is the product.

Payments

Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. This site never sees or stores your card number. What comes back is whether a subscription is active and which listing it belongs to.

Who else ever sees it

Three companies, each doing one job, and none of them are given anything to sell:

• Brevo delivers the emails. It sees the address an email is going to.
• Stripe takes the payments. It handles card details so this site does not have to.
• Northflank runs the server, and a copy of the site’s data is backed up so nothing is lost if a disk fails.

The companies whose feeds are embedded on some pages (listed in the tracking section below) see your IP address and browser details when the embed loads. They never receive anything you typed into a form here.

Nothing is sold, rented, or handed to advertisers. Nothing is shared for marketing by anyone. Information is only ever given out beyond that if the law requires it.

Two things are deliberately kept out of the backup — the alert sign-up list and advertiser enquiries — because the backup keeps every old copy, and an address sitting in an old copy could not be properly deleted on request. That is being fixed with a backup that overwrites instead.

Tracking, and Do Not Track

This site itself does not track you. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and has no advertising code of its own. What it cannot promise for is the handful of outside feeds embedded on some pages. Each one is loaded straight from that company, which means the company sees your IP address and browser details, and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy:

• Facebook page timelines from Big Bear Fire, the Sheriff, Caltrans and the CSD, on the homepage — Meta’s privacy policy. Meta is the one most likely to recognise you, if you are logged in to Facebook.
• Instagram photo wall on the homepage, delivered by SociableKit — SociableKit’s policy and Instagram’s.
• YouTube player on the homepage, loaded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode so it does not set cookies until you press play — Google’s policy.
• Live webcams on the homepage, streamed by CamStreamer — CamStreamer’s policy.
• Windy radar map on the homepage — Windy’s policy.
• OpenStreetMap map tiles on the map and community pages, and the map library from the unpkg.com file server — OSM Foundation’s policy.

If you would rather none of that happen, a content blocker that stops third-party frames and scripts will remove those embeds and the rest of the site still works. Nothing else on these pages calls out to a third party.

Because this site itself does nothing that a Do Not Track signal could switch off, the signal changes nothing about how the site behaves. How the embedded companies treat that signal is up to their policies, linked above.

Ordinary server records are kept for a short time to keep the site running and to spot abuse, in the same way any website does. Some pages link out to other sites — Caltrans, the Forest Service, Recreation.gov, the resorts — and once you follow a link you are on their site under their rules, not these.

Seeing, changing or deleting what is held

You can ask for a copy of anything held about you, ask for it corrected, or ask for it deleted. Email bigbearreadyhelp@inkboxmail.com and say which it is. There is no form to fill in and no account to create.

• Alert emails: the unsubscribe link on any alert removes you immediately. You can also just ask.
• A community post: the link emailed to you when you posted lets you edit or remove it yourself.
• A business listing: ask, or manage it through the account the listing was bought under.

Deletion is honoured on the live site straight away. ⚠️ Be aware of one honest limitation: until the alert list backup is rebuilt, that one list is kept out of backups entirely rather than risk holding an address you asked to have removed.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent something in, write to the address above and it will be deleted.

Changes to this page

This page is dated at the top. If what the site does with your information changes, that date changes and the change is described here rather than quietly swapped in. 8 September 2026: the earlier version said there was no third-party code on the site at all. That was wrong — the embedded feeds listed above were already there — so this page now names them. Nothing about what the site itself collects changed. If a change ever affects people already signed up for alerts, they will be emailed about it.
